Homework/Tutoring (K-5) (Monday 2:45 – 3:45) (1/30-3/26) No classes on 2/20 Cost: $105.00 Assistance with homework, unfinished work, and supplemental work if homework is done to reinforce skills needed to succeed at their grade level.

Printing with Ms. Cindy (1-2) (Monday 2:45 – 3:45) (1/30-3/26) No classes on 2/20 Cost: $90 Printing class – The unique world of print making will be sure to leave a lasting impression on your children. Students will explore various techniques, some of which might be stencil prints, mono prints, yarn prints, rubbings and relief prints. Students will take home many colorful impressions enough to share with the family. Printing inks are permanent so please bring an old shirt or a smock.

Art around the World (K-5th) (Monday 2:45 – 3:45) (1/30-3/26) No classes on 2/20 Cost: $95.00 Imagine traveling around the world in 8 weeks, while learning customs that are native to those countries. In this class, we discover these unique traditions, while creating beautiful crafts. We will make: Native American Dreamcatchers-U.S.A., Worry Dolls-Guatemala, Ceramic and Marble Mosaic Frame-Greece, Quilling Art-Egypt, Decorative Masks- Nigeria, Pasta Art-Italy, Mandala Sand Creations-Tibet, & Divali Diya Clay Candle Holders-India. Passports will be given at the end of the session with explanations of the crafts, country’s map and flag.

Space Academy (K-5th) (Monday 2:45 – 3:45) (1/30-3/26) No classes on 2/20 Cost: $100.00 Is your budding scientist ready for lift off? Then look no further! Space academy teaches while it entertains, inspires and challenges children with amazing lessons. Your child will get the opportunity to learn science lessons while they dream of deep space. Kids learn what it’s like to be an astronaut, how technology and science created the space program, rocket propulsion, the moon, constellations, comets and more! Students will make balloon rockets, telescopes, solar system mobile, star maps and other cool projects. It’s out of this world!

Rock n’ Roll 101 (1st -5th) (Monday 2:45 – 3:45) (1/30-3/26) No Classes on 2/20 Cost: $99 Rock n’ Roll 101 is a class that teaches students the elements to play in a rock and roll band. This class offers vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard and drums. You will learn to play rock songs, read tablature/music, rock and roll history and some basic music theory. This class is intended to be fun and exciting but at the same time, provides you with the knowledge to play and create your own music. Additional cost: Instrument (varies on instrument).  Vocals: $0, Guitar: $50-$100, Bass: $50-$120, Keyboard: $50-$120, Drums: $125-$200 (Prices for instruments are estimates).

Secret Formulas II (K – 2nd) (Tuesday 1:45 – 2:45) 8 weeks straight through (1/31-3/20) Cost: $95 Come and learn the top secret formulas for making some great science inventions. Mix and investigate as we make some great tasty treats, stretchy silly putty and be amazed as we watch liquid magically change colors by itself. There is lots to do and new secrets revealed each day!

Anatomy Academy (K – 5th) (Tuesday 1:45 – 2:45) 8 weeks straight through (1/31-3/20) Cost: $100 Fun experiments will help students understand more about their senses, brains, breathing, circulation and digestion. Children will create model organs, make Mad Mucus and a simulated stomach, assemble a model skeleton and much more. Take a journey inside the human body as you read x-rays, take your friends blood pressure, listen to your heartbeat and lungs with a stethoscope and learn to type blood with our simulated blood typing kit!

Pottery with Ms. Cindy (3rd-5th) (Tuesday 1:45 – 2:45) 8 weeks straight through (1/31-3/20) Cost: $90 Pinch-roll-mold. The basic building blocks of clay construction is introduced to new students, and reinforced to repeat students. Students learn to use various clay tools to enhance and transform their clay. Class includes glazing, painting, and firing each completed project so the fantastic world of ceramic creatures, vessels and forms come to life at the end of each session. Classes are adjusted to fit the skill level of repeat students.

Good News Club (K – 5th) (Tuesday 1:45 – 3:00) (1/10-5/29) Meets Tuesdays throughout the school year Cost: $0 Teaching character counts through Biblical principles in stories, music and fun games. Open to all students. See flyers in the Main Office.

Kinder Reading and Numbers’ Learning Games (K only) (Tuesday 1:30 – 2:45) (7 classes-1 hour 15 min each) (1/31-3/13) Cost: $90 Children will use academic games to review and enrich the Kindergarten curriculum. We will continue to explore alphabet by practicing what comes before, after and in between two letters. We will rhyme, learn number recognition past 10 and practice letter sounds to produce words. We will continue to learn sight words and do story analysis. Children will work individually and in pairs in a relaxed atmosphere. All will receive new books during the session. Class is limited to 12 students and is taught by Elaine Friedman, retired Castlebay Kinder teacher.

Academic Chess (K – 5th) (Tuesday 1:45 – 2:45) 8 weeks straight through (1/31-3/20) Cost: $106 Using songs, stories, and dances, this class teaches chess in a fun and exciting way. Each class session consists of a 30 minute chess lesson and 30 minutes of playing time. Sportsmanship prizes will be given out to help motivate the children. A special prize will be given to all students who participate in the tournament. Both beginners and advanced students will experience the fun of playing chess while enhancing their critical thinking skills, focus, and problem solving. Kinder students will be picked up and brought to the class.

Cooking and History (K – 5th) (Wednesday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/1-3/21) Cost: $100 Kids will have a great time learning about the past while they cook up easy and yummy recipes. American history isn’t just about important people, places and events. It is also about the foods they ate and where they got their food. Just think of the places we will go! Ride with the cowboys in Texas and eat tacos and chili around the chuck wagon. Camp out with the pioneers and cook up a real pioneer breakfast on the trail west. Who knew history could be so delicious?

Sewing with Ms. Cindy (3rd – 5th) (Wednesday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/1-3/21) Cost: $85  Children learn the basics of sewing from a pattern. Patterns are pinned to fabric and cut. Students also learn about pins, needles, pinning, threading a needle and more advanced knotting. Students fill their pillow projects with batting to their desired fluffiness! At the end of the session, your child will have a personal, hand-made pillow to take. All materials are supplied. See Ms. Cindy to choose a pillow-project.

Show Me the Science (K)(1-5) (Wednesday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/1-3/21) Cost: $109 Burst into the lab with this high-energy session! Children will be stuck on science as they explore magnets, tape, glue, and all the things that bring us together. The pressure will be on as we experiment with the fabulous forces of gravity, inertia, and friction. Explore the energy of motion and all about current electricity. Go on a Continuity Quest, mix light, and build molecules with your very own Atomic Coins! Finally, sit in the director’s chair and learn the science of movie-making!

Kindergarten Arts and Crafts (Kinder only) (Wednesday 2:30 – 3:45) (7 classes-1hour 15 min each) (2/1-3/14 ) Cost: $90 Children will do craft projects that will improve their fine motor skills and their ability to follow sequential directions better. They will be cutting with scissors, using glue carefully and painting using varied techniques. Some of the crafts are: Winter bookmark, snowflake art, Valentine’s Day heart crafts, St. Patrick’s Day necklace and Spring crafts. The class fee includes all project supplies. Children will take home 6-8 completed projects. The class is limited to 12 students and is taught by Elaine Friedman, retired Castlebay Kindergarten teacher.

Dancing with the Stars (1st – 5th) (Thursday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/2-3/22) Cost: $105 A wonderful opportunity for your child to begin to learn to dance! The class will include the Cha-Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Passodouble, Jive, Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep and others. Teaches musical rhythm (goes hand-in-hand with music lessons), improves self-confidence, posture and coordination. Girls learn to be the graceful princesses they envision and boys learn manners and chivalry. No partner required. Soft shoes preferred (no flip-flops or sneakers). The last class will be a performance to show parents and guests what the children learned.

LEGO FUNgineering (K – 5th) (Thursday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/2-3/22) Cost: $100  Kids who love to see their creations in motion will love this challenging and exciting class. They will build with Lego® motors and Lego® Technic parts. After building their models, campers customize their projects, demonstrate their imagination, and share their creations with other students. Sample Motor Mania projects include: •A Helicopter •A High-Speed Race Car •A Fantastic Motorcycle •And Many More!

Pottery with Ms. Cindy (1st – 2nd) (Thursday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/2-3/22) Cost: $90  Same description as Pottery class on Tuesdays, please see above. This class is for 1st and 2nd graders…3rd through 5th on Tuesdays.

Kindergarten Fine and Gross Motor Skills (K only) (Thursday 2:30 – 3:45) (7 classes-1 hour 15 min each) (2/2-3/15 ) Cost: $90 Children will continue to improve their fine motor skills by cutting accurately, outlining with crayons (and a pencil) and printing using proper form. They will also develop gross motor skills like skipping, and catching and throwing small objects accurately. They will improve their visual perception skills and their ability to follow directions by using puzzles and perception games of different levels. The class is limited to 12 students. It is taught by Elaine Friedman, retired Castlebay Kindergarten teacher.

“So Random” Improv Class (K – 5th) (Friday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/3-3/23) Cost: $100 Love watching So Random? Now is your chance to be the star of the show. Wigs, accents and costumes! If you love to perform, this is the class for you! Make your audiences laugh, cry, wonder & guffaw. Let down your guard and explore your boundless imaginations through Improv! It’s a creative explosion! Kids will play games while learning the basics of acting and thinking on their feet. Parents are invited on the final day to watch your child shine center stage!

Art Class with Ms. Cindy (1st – 2nd) (Friday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/3-3/23) Cost: $90 In Art Class, students will have the experience to use different mediums in art with Ms. Cindy. Projects may include sculpture, drawing and sketching and painting. (Projects may vary) Bring a smock or an old t-shirt and plan on getting messy.

Hip Hop Styles (K – 1) (Friday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/3-3/23) Cost: $70 Watch as children experience music and movement in ways they never have! Through original dance moves and easy, exciting dance combos set to today’s greatest hits, see how Hip Hop dance can build character and confidence in even the youngest child. Get your groove on!

Flag Football (2nd – 5th) (Friday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/3-3/23) Cost: $70 Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!!! Join this fast paced, high intensity class and learn all the basics of football and make the most of your time on the field. This flag football class is open to all children in 2nd- 5th grade.

Gift of Language Description (K– 5th) (Friday 2:45 – 3:45) 8 weeks straight through (2/3-3/23) Cost: $101 Learn how to speak a new language as of day 1! Nihao! Hola! Salut! GIFT OF LANGUAGE After-School classes in SPANISH, FRENCH & MANDARIN – Imagine learning and speaking a new language in a fun and game-based environment! Whether you know a lot or a little, you can come and challenge what you know through flashcards in a fun and competitive class where students ONLY speak the target language 60 minutes a week! Speak from day one, learn tongue-twisters and enjoy the culture our natives speakers bring to your class. 10-15 students to a teacher. This class will take on a higher level of learning and support child-driven experimentation, plus we explore both science and technology together with some high tech scientific tools.
